Cookeville Rescue Mission
(Since 1976)
To God Be The Glory - We are celebrating 35 years of service this year in 2011! Each and every donation to the work of the Rescue Mission is used to help the hurting and homeless people living or passing through the Upper Cumberland Region. Remember "inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." - Mathew 25:40

Dave Riddell faithfully served the Board of Directors of the Mission for 3 years and has just stepped down from the Presidency but will remain on the Board. Step Upward Farm Band

We enjoyed the music of our newly organized "Farm Band" for our Labor Day Service. In addition to their regular farm duties, 3 of the 4 are working a full-time job, yet Paul Mofield, Chad Ellis, James Hicks and Paul Fletcher took the time to practice and perform for us!

The Word on the Street

Dave and Janice Plemmons, who attend Marsh Chapel, recently shared the unique street ministry they are kicking off. Using colored blocks to tell the story of salvation, Dave fills the blocks in with a few well placed black marks to form words as he tells the story. When finished the board looks like this.

History of Cookeville Rescue Mission

The Cookeville Rescue Mission began in March of 1976 at the corner of Broad & Cedar Streets in Cookeville, Tennessee, under the direction of Bro. Larry and Betty Self and Bro. U. L. Whitson. In 1982 we recruited our Board of Directors and moved to our current location at 1331 South Jefferson Avenue. In August of 1981, we were blessed to be able to purchase this property. In April 1985, with the help of God's people, through fundraisers, we were able to pay it off. In 1996, the Lighthouse Family Lodge was opened to provide emergency housing for families and single women. In 1998, the Thrift Store, Dental Clinic, Office and Warehouse Complex were built and are fulfilling a great need for this Ministry. The men's new dormitory was completed and dedicated in 2003, and our parking lot was also paved that year.

The Mission Chapel has Church services twice on Sunday and on Wednesday night, and Devotions every evening. Spiritual counseling is always available for anyone in need.
